What Is Sweet Adelines ?
In the summer of 1945, Edna Mae Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma brought a few women together in her home. They wanted to participate in the fun-filled harmony that their husbands enjoyed as members of the men’s barbershop organization founded in 1939. From that meeting came the nucleus of what was to become Sweet Adelines International. Edna must have been a real “mover and shaker”, because by year’s end the chapter had incorporated and had 85 members. Within 4 years the organization had grown to 1,500 members singing in 35 chapters and 60 quartets across 14 states.

Today there are nearly 30,000 members of Sweet Adelines International in more than 600 choruses around the world who are perpetuating the unique American art form of barbershop harmony while looking optimistically to the future in their quest to "Harmonize The World."
